Twinkle Little Charms STRONGLY recommends the purchase of a jewelry cleaning cloth in order to keep your jewelry looking shiny! They are available on our site for only $5.
Storing and caring for your silver jewelry:
Of course you are going to want to wear your new jewelry all the time, which is great because sterling silver pieces should be worn often to avoid tarnishing. When you are not wearing your jewelry, it is best to keep it in a zip-lock bag. We recommend that you occasionally wash your jewelry in warm water with a phosphate-free detergent. Then, dry it with one of our jewelry cleaning cloths. The cleaning cloth has two parts, blue and white. First, buff it with the white part of the cloth, then shine with the blue part. Be sure apply hairspray and perfume before putting on any jewelry. If you do not, it will dull the finish and increase tarnishing.
ABC'S of how to clean your jewelry:
A. If your silver is not necessarily tarnished, but is dirty, you may use a phosphate-free detergent to clean. Then, buff and shine it with the cleaning cloth. Silver that is gently washed and dried immediately, will rarely require tarnish removal.
B. When tarnish is first noticed, it usually still easy to removed. If it is not removed, the jewelry will eventually turn black. Frequent light cleanings, (as described above), then drying and buffing with our cleaning cloth is a better option than waiting until the tarnish gets so difficult to remove that harsher polishes would be needed.
C. Be sure to rub the object in a straight, back-and-forth motion. Avoid rubbing in a circular motion.
CAUTION No chemically treated cloth, including this jewelry polishing cloth may be used n the following items: amber, coral, emerald, ivory, jadeite, lapis lazuli, malachite, opal, pearls, turquoise or 24 karat gold.
